Hino Trucks Returns to North American Market with New Class 4-5 Lineup
Hino Trucks North American Return
Hino Trucks, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, has officially returned to the North American market after a two-year absence caused by emissions certification issues. The company is launching an entirely new lineup of Class 4 and Class 5 conventional trucks, the L5 and L6 series, built on a new platform that meets all current and anticipated EPA emissions standards.
New Engine Technology
The new Hino trucks are powered by a 5.1-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine developed in partnership with Toyota's commercial vehicle engineering division. The engine produces 210 HP and 520 lb-ft of torque, and features a simplified aftertreatment system with a single-canister design that reduces weight by 85 lbs compared to the previous dual-canister approach. Hino is offering a 5-year/250,000-mile engine warranty, the longest in the medium-duty segment.
Manufacturing
In a significant shift, Hino is now assembling the new trucks at a facility in San Antonio, Texas, rather than importing chassis from Japan. The domestic assembly allows for greater customization and faster delivery times. The plant has an initial capacity of 15,000 units per year, with plans to expand to 25,000 units by 2027.
Dealer Network
Hino has rebuilt its dealer network to 165 locations across the United States and Canada, with plans to reach 200 by year-end. The company is offering aggressive conquest incentives to fleet customers, including complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first two years and an extended powertrain warranty program.
