Freightliner Unveils Next-Generation Cascadia

Daimler Truck North America has officially pulled the covers off the next-generation Freightliner Cascadia at a special press event in Portland, Oregon. The flagship Class 8 tractor represents the most significant update to the Cascadia platform in over a decade, with Daimler investing more than $300 million in the redesign.

Powertrain Improvements

The new Cascadia features a completely re-engineered Detroit DD15 engine that delivers up to 8% better fuel economy compared to the outgoing model. The engine now meets the EPA 2027 emissions standards ahead of schedule, utilizing an advanced selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system and improved exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). A new 12-speed automated manual transmission, co-developed with Detroit, provides smoother shifts and improved startability on grades.

Driver-Centric Cab Design

Inside, the cab has been completely reimagined with input from over 500 professional drivers. A new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.4-inch infotainment display dominate the dashboard. The sleeper berth in the 72-inch raised-roof model now features improved insulation, a larger refrigerator, and an available microwave shelf. Freightliner claims the interior noise levels have been reduced by 3 dB compared to the previous generation.

Connectivity and Safety

The truck comes standard with Detroit Assurance 6.0, the latest iteration of the active safety platform. This includes enhanced adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and a new blind-spot warning system. The integrated Detroit Connect analytics platform provides real-time vehicle health monitoring and predictive maintenance alerts.

Availability

Orders for the next-generation Cascadia are now open, with first deliveries expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026. Pricing starts at approximately $165,000 for the day cab configuration.
