Electric Semi Trucks Show $160,000 Per-Truck Savings in Real-World Canadian Fleet Test
A landmark real-world study tracking two Canadian fleets over more than a year and 200,000 km of driving has demonstrated that electric semi trucks can deliver nearly $160,000 in savings per truck. The study, the most comprehensive of its kind in Canada, found that routes with predictable distances, centralized terminals, and controlled return schedules allowed electric trucks to operate efficiently and reliably.
The findings come as the commercial vehicle market sees steady growth projections, with truck production expected to grow 5-7% per year between 2026 and 2028. Zero-emission adoption continues to accelerate, driven by long-term city fleet renewal programs and tightening emissions regulations.
Meanwhile, the DAF Trucks XD Electric and XF Electric have been named International Truck of the Year 2026, recognized for their highest safety standards, remarkable efficiency, and first-class driver comfort. Workhorse also announced its 1,100+ deployed electric vehicles have surpassed 20 million miles of in-service travel.
