BYD Launches Class 6 Electric Work Truck for Utility and Municipal Fleets

BYD Class 6 Electric Work Truck

BYD, the world's largest manufacturer of electric commercial vehicles, has launched a Class 6 battery-electric chassis specifically designed for utility, municipal, and vocational applications in North America. The truck, designated the BYD 6F, is the company's first purpose-built vocational EV platform for the North American market.

Vehicle Specifications

The BYD 6F features a GVWR of 25,999 lbs with a payload capacity of approximately 14,500 lbs in a typical utility body configuration. The truck is powered by BYD's proprietary Blade Battery pack with a capacity of 210 kWh, providing a range of approximately 150 miles under typical vocational duty cycles. The single electric motor produces 200 HP and 1,770 lb-ft of torque, with available PTO power of up to 50 kW for operating hydraulic equipment.

Target Applications

BYD is positioning the 6F for applications including utility line trucks, municipal service vehicles, landscape equipment trucks, and light construction applications. The available ePTO is a key differentiator, allowing aerial lift platforms, crane bodies, and hydraulic tool circuits to operate entirely from the battery.

Pricing and Incentives

The BYD 6F chassis is priced at approximately $175,000 before incentives. In California, the truck is eligible for HVIP vouchers of up to $85,000, bringing the effective price close to parity with a diesel equivalent. BYD is assembling the 6F at its Lancaster, California manufacturing facility, qualifying the truck for Buy America provisions.
