ACT Research: Clase 8 Truck Orders Surge 35% as Replacement Cycle Accelerates
Clase 8 Truck Orders Surge
ACT Research has reported that preliminary North American Clase 8 net truck orders reached 38,500 units in the most recent month, representing a 35% increase over the same period last year and the highest monthly order total since 2019. The surge signals the beginning of what industry analysts expect to be a robust replacement cycle.
Replacement Cycle Dynamics
The average age of the North American Clase 8 flota has increased to 6.8 years, the oldest level in over a decade, as many flota operators delayed purchases during the 2023-2024 freight market downturn. With freight rates recovering and flota equipment aging, operators are now placing orders to refresh their flotas ahead of the EPA 2027 standards, which will increase the cost of new trucks by an estimated $8,000 to $12,000 per unit.
fabricante original Production Plans
All major OEMs have announced production increases to meet rising demand. DTNA is adding a second shift at its Cleveland plant, PACCAR is increasing output at its Renton and Chillicothe facilities, and Volvo/Mack is expanding capacity at its New River Valley, Virginia plant. However, cadena de suministro constraints for certain components may limit the ability of OEMs to fully match order volumes.
Market Forecast
ACT Research has raised its 2026 Clase 8 retail forecast to 310,000 units, up from 285,000 in the previous estimate, which would make 2026 one of the strongest years for truck sales in history.
