Volvo VNR Electric Expands Range to 330 Miles with New Battery Pack Option
Volvo VNR Electric Range Extension
Volvo Trucks North America has announced an expanded battery option for its VNR Electric 8级 truck that extends the vehicle's range to 330 miles on a single charge, up from the current maximum of 275 miles. The enhancement targets regional distribution operations where the previous range sometimes fell short of daily route requirements.
Battery Pack Details
The extended-range VNR Electric uses a new 6-pack battery configuration totaling 630 kWh of usable capacity, compared to the 5-pack (525 kWh) configuration in the current maximum-range model. The additional battery pack is mounted in the chassis rails and adds approximately 1,200 lbs to the vehicle weight. Despite the weight increase, the truck maintains a 有效载荷 capacity of approximately 40,000 lbs.
Real-World Validation
Volvo conducted a 100,000-mile real-world evaluation of the extended-range configuration with five trucks operating in Southern California regional distribution service. The trucks averaged 305 miles of effective range per charge cycle under normal operating conditions. Energy consumption averaged 1.9 kWh per mile, and battery degradation after 100,000 miles was less than 5%.
Pricing and Availability
The 6-pack VNR Electric is available for order immediately, with deliveries beginning in Q2 2026. The MSRP for the extended-range model is $370,000. Volvo notes that the truck is eligible for the federal Clean 商用车 Credit of up to $40,000, as well as various state incentives including California's HVIP voucher of up to $120,000.
