Tesla Semi Begins Volume Production at Nevada Gigafactory

Tesla Semi Volume Production

Tesla has officially begun volume production of the Semi at a new dedicated assembly line within Gigafactory Nevada. After years of limited production for early customer PepsiCo, the company is now scaling up manufacturing with a target of producing 25,000 units annually by 2027. The Semi is being offered in two configurations: a 300-mile range model priced at $180,000 and a 500-mile range model at $250,000.

Production Details

The Semi production line occupies approximately 500,000 square feet of the Gigafactory complex and features a high degree of automation, including robotic battery pack assembly, automated cab welding, and machine vision quality inspection systems. Tesla is producing its own battery packs for the Semi using a combination of 4680 cells for the 500-mile variant and 2170 cells sourced from Panasonic for the 300-mile variant.

Customer Adoption

Beyond launch customer PepsiCo, which has been operating a 车队 of 36 Semis in Northern California since late 2022, several major carriers have placed orders. FedEx has committed to 150 units for its California operations, UPS has ordered 200 units for regional routes in the Northeast, and Walmart has signed a letter of intent for 500 units. Early operators report energy costs equivalent to approximately $0.70 per mile, compared to $1.85 per mile for diesel at current fuel prices.

Charging Infrastructure

Tesla has announced plans to deploy 50 "Megacharger" stations along major freight corridors by 2027. Each station will feature 8 to 12 Megacharger stalls capable of delivering up to 1.5 MW of charging power, enabling a 0 to 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes for the 500-mile variant.
