Remanufactured Truck Components Market Exceeds $12 Billion as Sustainability Focus Grows

Truck Reman Market Growth

The North American heavy-duty truck remanufactured components market has exceeded $12 billion in annual revenue, according to a new report from the Motor & Equipment Remanufacturers Association (MERA). The market has grown at a compound annual rate of 7% over the past five years.

Market Segments

The largest category is drivetrain components, including engines, transmissions, and axle assemblies, which together account for approximately 55% of market revenue. The engine reman segment alone is valued at approximately $4 billion, with Cummins Reman, Detroit Reman, and Caterpillar Reman being the dominant players.

Economic and Environmental Benefits

Remanufactured components typically cost 50 to 70% of a new part while providing equivalent performance and warranty coverage. Remanufacturing an engine uses approximately 85% less energy and 85% fewer raw materials compared to manufacturing a new engine. MERA estimates that the truck reman industry prevents approximately 300,000 tons of material from entering landfills annually.

OEM Reman Programs

All major truck OEMs now operate significant remanufacturing programs. Cummins ReCon processes over 100,000 engines, turbochargers, and fuel systems annually. PACCAR has expanded its reman program to include MX-13 engines with as little as 250,000 miles. Volvo Reman now offers over 8,000 reman part numbers covering engines, transmissions, aftertreatment components, and electronic modules.
