Mitchell 1 TruckSeries Adds Augmented Reality Repair Guides for Commercial Vehicles
Mitchell 1 AR Repair Guides
Mitchell 1 has introduced augmented reality (AR) repair guides within its TruckSeries commercial vehicle repair information platform. The new feature, called "TruckSeries AR," allows technicians to view step-by-step repair instructions overlaid on a live camera view of the actual truck components they are working on.
How It Works
TruckSeries AR uses computer vision to recognize specific truck components and systems through the device's camera, then overlays animated 3D instructions showing the exact steps required for the repair procedure. For example, when performing a DPF replacement on a Freightliner Cascadia, the system recognizes the aftertreatment assembly and displays animated guidance for clamp removal, sensor disconnection, and reinstallation with proper torque specifications.
Content Library
The initial release includes AR guides for the 100 most common repair procedures across Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Volvo, and Mack Class 8 trucks. Priority procedures include aftertreatment system service, turbocharger replacement, EGR system service, air brake component replacement, and HVAC system repairs. Mitchell 1 plans to expand to 500 procedures by year-end.
Impact on Technician Productivity
Early pilot results show that AR-guided repairs are completed 25% faster on average compared to traditional flat-rate times, with a 40% reduction in comeback rates. The technology is particularly beneficial for less experienced technicians, who showed a 35% improvement in first-time fix rates. TruckSeries AR is available as an add-on at $99/month per shop location.
